Many high achievers share a dirty little secret: Deep down they feel like complete frauds–their accomplishments the result of serendipitous luck.
IMPOSTER SYNDROME
WIKIPEDIA SAYS:
Impostor syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenon, fraud syndrome or the impostor experience) is a concept describing individuals who are marked by an inability to internalize their accomplishments and a persistent fear of being exposed as a “fraud”.
In all honesty, all of us face that pesky IMPOSTER SYNDROME at some point in our lives. As an entrepreneur, you will face it more often unless you work on your mindset daily.
And even then it will show its ugly face to test you.
For me, I noticed a pattern.
Every time I am about to launch new course etc. I get all those thoughts of inadequacy popping in my head :
❓What if nobody likes it
❓What if nobody buys
❓What if they don’t see results
❓What if it is not going to work in 6 months?
And many many more…
This Thursday, I am presenting my new mini-course in front of 200 entrepreneurs online
While I am putting final touches on my training
All of those thoughts had been coming up every morning and throughout the day since Saturday. Luckily I had been working on my mindset for last 18 months and it is daily work – not do it once and forget about it.
According to Valerie Young’s book The Secret Thoughts of Successful Women: Why Capable People Suffer From the Imposter Syndrome and How to Thrive in Spite of It, there are five subgroups
The Perfectionist
The Superwoman/man
The Natural Genius
The Rugged Individualist
The Expert
I myself would fit in The Perfectionist – let’s add Recovering
Success is rarely satisfying for me because I believe that I could’ve done even better.
This is what I am learning to overcome and this is how I do it because it’s neither productive nor healthy.
🍾Owning and celebrating achievements (I share my wins weekly with other like-minded entrepreneurs- no matter how small those wins are – I had been doing this for five last months consistently- and it is making a HUGE difference
🍭We all make mistakes, and by viewing them as a natural part of the process and pushing myself to act before I think am ready
Truth is, there will never be the “perfect time,” and your work will never be 100% flawless. The sooner you’re able to accept that, the better off you’ll be.
Would love to hear if you can relate and what are you doing to conquer that pesky Imposter Syndrome of feeling like you are a FRAUD?
